Jenko has sponsored the Hull Teacher of the Year Awards for a second year running. This years’ prestigious gala event was hosted by impressionist and entertainer Jon Culshaw, famous for his impressions of Gordon Brown, Tom Baker and Hollywood actor Russell Crowe. The special guest had the audience in raptures at the awards ceremony at Hull’s Guildhall. Amongst his impressions John informed the assembled audience of Hull’s finest teachers and business leaders that he had, in fact, started his career here in Hull.

The awards entertaining event is growing in momentum and is now hailed as the premier recognition vehicle for the good work being done within Hull Schools. Hull often faces very bad press around its’ education, but the awards were set up by major sponsors Viking FM and Smith & Nephew, specifically to reward and recognise excellence to promote morale and cross community support.

Jenko’s sponsorship includes all design and branding for the event, the visual communications and the preparation of a souvenir programme specially produced as a keepsake for all nominees and guests at the awards. The Jenko-sponsored award went to Sandra Schott as the well-deserved Primary School Support Teacher of the Year. Primary school teacher Rebecca McNally was named as Hull's Teacher of the Year overall winner. Facing stiff competition from her colleagues, Rebecca’s violin playing to accompany classes at St Mary Queen of Martyrs School, is just one of her many special qualities that has seen her named as the overall winner. Rebecca, 27, is Hull born and is only in her third year of teaching. She also won the Primary School Teacher of the Year Award from the twenty one other nominated teachers.

Also present on the night was Nigel Richardson, Hull City Council's Director of Children and Young People's Service who said: "We still have a huge amount to do as a city to transform learning opportunities, but if anyone wants evidence at all about the potential of Hull to catapult itself forward in the education league, then they should have been here tonight."
